I completely agree with Cal Thomas!
My favorite punching bag has written something well worth reading. Here's a quote:
As with religion, some people on the right have used patriotism, which should be a unifying theme, to divide Americans. My liberal friends love America as much as I do. They might disagree on some, or all, of my political and religious beliefs, but that does not make them less in love with America, much less un-American.
Check it out.

Yeah, I almost passed out reading the column in the C-J this a.m.
But I have noticed this pattern in Cal Thomas. He makes these kinds of calls for tolerance when Republicans are lousy in the polls. When things are going their way, he has no problem questioning the patriotism, morals, etc. of Democrats.
George Will is just as conservative, but more consistent in calls for civility.
Michael,
I've noticed that too. But I appreciate what he wrote, nonetheless, and will extend to him the charity that he just extended to me and those who think and act like me.
I never pick on George Will, even though I rarely agree with him, because I have a great deal of respect for him. He is honest, and sometimes makes compelling arguments. By contrast, Cal Thomas makes bad arguments, when he actually bothers to offer an argument.
My Dad, who is almoost as "liberal" as I am, considers George Will's columns to be required reading, because it keeps him honest. Needless to say, he doesn't think the same of Cal Thomas.
Here's proof that Cal Thomas is quickly reverting to form:
