I rated an R for having the words abortion (it's a category, so even though I have written nothing on it for months, it shows up on their scan), death, torture. No context considered. It's a ridiculous rating system.
Oh, it's accounted for, all right. But, much like the real MPAA, it gets counted on a "per-use" basis, and then it's thrown into the mix along with mere mentions of the sorts of disturbing topics mentioned here.
What I wonder is whether the blog rater, like the MPAA raters, also rates graphic depictions of violence, especially gun violence, less harshly than mentions of sexuality, especially homosexuality. Anyone rated a blog that has discussions of violent acts?
I know we've discussed gun issues and talked about some of the violent things idiots have done with guns, so maybe that helped the rating become NC-17...maybe?!
I discuss violence all the time--I'm a pacifist writing to persuade others! I don't give graphic visuals of violence which I consider a form of assault, like all porn.

I gotta know-- HOW did you pull an NC-17? What was the explanation?
For words like gay, lesbian, pain, blood, and abortion.
OK, I'll cop to the fact that those sorts of words indicate adult themes. But an NC-17? Man!

Me too NC-17 .... torture and gay stuff did me in :-)
Language that people use isn't accounted for? As in profanity?
