I Love It: Faith and Hope, Together

Sorry for the punny title, I'm so happy I simply couldn't resist. Believe it or not, I had several drafts, trying to work "faith," "hope" and "love" into the title of this blog-post. The monstrosity above really is, alas, the best I could do.

Anyway, I am happy, and encouraged, not just by the news that Barack Obama is leading John McCain among Christian voters, according to a recent poll by the Barna Group, but even more by this:

Mark Nickolas of Political Base is reporting that a Christian group, Matthew 25, will soon air their first pro-Obama ad.

Check out Mr. Nickolas' post for more details.

In related news, despite the obvious similarities (just ask Hal Lindsey!), it turns out Barack Obama is not, after all, the anti-Christ.

Good to know.

I'm wondering if it's too early to start drinking, because there are already those who think a "good" Catholic can't vote for Obama. And it's only going to get worse, come November.

Garpu,

Way too early to start celebratory drinking, sure, but can't we at least have a nice anticipatory beer?

I think Obama will look better than McCain at tonight's Values Forum at Rick Warren's Saddleback Community Church--to be covered by both CNN and MSNBC from 8-10. Obama is far more comfortable discussing his faith and it's influence on his politics than McCain is.

The race has narrowed, but the electoral vote calculator still gives Obama a 92% chance of victory, McCain only a 7% chance. The Conventions will tell us more, although holding the RNC so soon (3 days!) after the DNC will curb some expected Obama bump.

Well, I was wrong. Warren designed his questions to restart the culture wars and, although Obama handled it well, I expect McCain to get the bigger bump. It was designed to make McCain appeal more to evangelicals than he does and to undermine Obama. I should have seen it coming.

I'll never say no to a beer. ;)
